WindRadar perspective
Watch a high-pressure system dive south

The WindRadar is very impressive when watching dangerous mountain gusts or a strong hurricane approaching land. But did you know you can use it to watch atmospheric pressure shift?

A fresh high-pressure system is moving south out of Canada starting Monday night and will bring cooler temperatures with it across the central U.S. You can already see evidence on tomorrow's TemperatureRadar forecast. Highs will be at least 5 degrees cooler than average from the Dakotas to Kansas.

High-pressure systems contain cool, dense air. As they move into a new area that has lower pressure, containing warmer and lighter air, the air out ahead of the high pressure is pushed outwards, creating wind. The bigger the difference between the pressure, the gustier the winds, and the more our WindRadar lights up!

This fresh high pressure moving south out of Canada can clearly be seen on the WindRadar. winds out ahead of the dense air mass kick up and cause gusty conditions as it settles in. Watch below!

The brighter the colors, like the yellow or orange, the gustier the conditions. Click on any of the cities you see on the WindRadar right on your app and check out the forecast!
